If you've been waiting for a cozy farming sim that actually lets you build something with your friends in a fully 3D world, Starsand Island just checked both of those boxes. The game now has an official release date and confirmation of four-player co-op multiplayer, which is the part that really got my attention.

I've been pretty vocal about how many of these cozy games get announced and then vanish into development limbo. Songs of Glimmerwick has been sitting on wishlists since 2022. So seeing one of these projects actually lock down a date and commit to a multiplayer feature feels like a small victory.

Starsand Island has drawn plenty of Stardew Valley comparisons, and you can see why. The farming loop, the seasonal rhythms, the town full of NPCs to befriend. The 3D presentation sets it apart though, and with four-player co-op confirmed, it's aiming for something Stardew only patched in later. You'll be able to till, build, and decorate alongside three other people from launch.

That co-op detail matters more than people might think. The reason games like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing stuck with players for thousands of hours wasn't just the gameplay loop. It was the social bonds. The shared projects. The inside jokes that form when you're all trying to get the summer crop rotation right before the season flips. I've said this before about so-called addictive games too, people don't keep logging in because of clever design hooks. They log in because someone in the group is counting on them.

Four-player co-op from day one means Starsand Island is building around that social glue rather than bolting it on afterward. The developers understand what makes this genre actually click with people.

No firm release date details beyond the announcement itself just yet, but the fact that it's official and attached to real multiplayer functionality puts it ahead of a lot of cozy projects still floating without anchors. Worth keeping on your radar, especially if your Discord server has been looking for its next group game.
