Quick hit for the cozy crowd: Starsand Island, the tropical farming sim that basically lives in Stardew Valley's neighborhood, is now available to some Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Per Gamerant, the rollout is tiered, so depending on which Game Pass level you're sitting on, you might already be loading it up or watching from the sidelines.

If you missed this one when it hit early access, the pitch is simple. You inherit a run-down farm on a sunny island, you fix it up, you befriend the locals, you fish and grow crops and decorate until it's 2 a.m. and you meant to go to bed three hours ago. Sound familiar? It should. But Starsand Island's big hook is that it supports 4-player co-op, which immediately separates it from most of the Stardew-likes crowding the storefront.

I keep coming back to that part. I covered the game's co-op reveal a few weeks back and I'll say now what I said then: cost kills more group plans than lack of interest ever does. When everyone in your Discord can just install it through a subscription they already pay for, the "we should start a farm this weekend" conversation actually turns into a farm instead of dying in the group chat. I've watched it happen enough times to know it's real, and it's why Game Pass day-one drops matter so much for social games specifically.

And a tropical setting is a nice change of pace while we're at it. My FFXIV brain is very partial to island vibes after this year's Moonfire Faire, so a whole farming game built around that aesthetic lands well with me. Palm trees over pine trees. I'll take it.

Worth tempering expectations a little, though. The game is still in active development, so expect rough edges, placeholder bits, and patch notes that reshape things as it cooks. If you're the type who wants a finished product, wishlist it and wait. If you're the type who wants to grow tomatoes with three friends while it's included in a subscription you already have? This is your weekend sorted.

Check your Game Pass library, see if your tier got it, and if it did, grab a friend or three. What's your group's record for a co-op farm lasting past the first in-game season? Mine's embarrassingly low and I refuse to elaborate.
