Horror fans, heads up: something new from the Conjuring Universe is landing just before Halloween. Per Yahoo Entertainment, the release is reportedly not what fans were expecting, though nobody's spelled out what it actually is yet. So I'm not going to guess. I'll update this space once the identity of the release gets confirmed.

What I can tell you is why the timing got my attention. The Conjuring still holds up all these years later. The clapping game scene still gets me, Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson give these characters more warmth than most franchise leads ever get, and James Wan's camera glides through that farmhouse like it's daring you to look away. That movie launched one of the biggest horror franchises out there, and I'd argue none of the follow-ups have quite matched it.

Halloween season is when horror fans like me start planning entire October viewing calendars around this stuff, so any new Conjuring-adjacent release landing in that window is worth watching for. Whether it's a new film, a reissue, or something weirder, this franchise has a way of showing up when the leaves start turning.

If you've never seen The Conjuring on a proper setup with the lights off, consider this your excuse regardless. The sound design alone, every creak and music-box note, deserves better than laptop speakers.

So what are you watching this October, the Warrens or something new? Once the details are confirmed I'll report back on what it is and whether it earns a spot on the calendar.
