ground control to everyone who needs a rewatch: the original The Devil Wears Prada is coming to Netflix and the timing is SO on purpose. The sequel is out here doing big numbers in theaters, so obviously the fashion nightmare itself lands on streaming so a whole new wave of people can finally get why we've been quoting Miranda Priestly for like 20 years. Yahoo has the details.

If you somehow missed this movie, first of all... how. Second of all it's the 2006 one where Anne Hathaway's Andy stumbles into a job at Runway magazine and slowly gets remade by Meryl Streep's Miranda, whose insults are so quiet they should be taught in film schools. It's technically a workplace comedy but honestly it's a horror movie where the monster wears couture.

And now the sequel's in theaters doing well enough that the original getting a streaming home is not a coincidence, it's strategy. This is just how it works right? Sequel hits, nostalgia spikes, first movie shows up on the biggest platform, and suddenly your whole FYP is cerulean sweaters again. The algorithm doesn't even have to try.

I do think the hype is earned here, which is rare. The Devil Wears Prada holds up in a way a lot of 2000s fashion-era stuff just... doesn't. Some of those movies you rewatch and cringe the whole time. This one you rewatch and find new things to be obsessed with, mostly Stanley Tucci's Nigel, who is still one of the best supporting characters of that entire decade. The scene where he tells Andy she's just consonants? devastating. every time.

My grandma always says tech and entertainment do this little dance where one makes the other more valuable, and streaming windows are basically that dance in its purest form. A sequel makes the original worth more, the original on Netflix feeds the sequel, everyone wins except my free time because I'm watching it again the second it drops.

No exact date is fully locked in the reporting yet beyond Netflix bound, so keep an eye on the coming soon section. If they're smart they'll pair it with a little featurette where the cast talks about the fashion. If they're really smart they'll just let Meryl's "florals, for spring" play on loop.

Anyway. Watch it before the sequel if you haven't, watch it again if you have, and yes I will be taking notes on Andy's wardrobe transformation for the ninth time. some things are just constants.
