The Expanse: Osiris Reborn finally has a real release window, and it's Q2 2027. Per Softonic's report, the game is headed to PC and PlayStation 5, with Xbox Series X|S also confirmed. On PC it's coming to Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG.

Quick correction to something I've seen floating around, including in the Softonic headline itself: this is not a shooter. The game's Steam listing identifies it as a third-person Action RPG, and that framing changes what we should expect. Think a story-driven single-player experience with progression, character building, and combat that serves the narrative, not a linear run-and-gun.

Being set in The Expanse universe is the hook that gets my attention. That universe runs on grounded, gritty space fiction, no artificial gravity cheat codes, no magic shields, just people in fragile ships making hard calls. An action RPG built inside those rules could feel refreshingly different from the usual power fantasy, especially if the role-playing part means hard calls actually land on you as the player. The name Osiris Reborn suggests resurrection tech or something protomolecule adjacent, and if you know anything about The Expanse, you know how badly that can go for everyone involved.

The Q2 2027 window puts it well clear of the fall 2026 avalanche, which might be the smartest thing a mid-size game can do right now. Spring gives a game like this room to breathe, and it lands in a stretch where players tend to be hungry for something meaty after burning through the holiday blockbusters.

What we don't have yet is a firm date. We do have more than a logo to go on, though. Owlcat has released a gameplay trailer, and there was a closed beta back in April, so the shape of the thing is already visible if you went looking. That bodes well for a licensed game this far out. Not every game needs to be a 100-hour open world, and a tightly scoped action RPG with real characters could be exactly the right shape for this universe.

And I keep circling back to that last part. The community side of me loves when a licensed game picks a lane and commits to it. The Expanse fans have been burned before, the Telltale game was fine but uneven, and there's a lot of goodwill sitting there for whoever nails this universe properly. An action RPG with real characters in that world could be the one that finally sticks.

Q2 2027 is a ways off, so temper the hype for now. But this one is firmly on my radar. If you've got an Expanse fan in your Discord, tell them to mark the window. Beltalowda deserve a good game.
