the Jackass guys are back. or, well, the last Jackass movie is back, because this is apparently the final one and I've heard that before from franchises but this time it feels serious. According to Men's Journal, the movie finally has a streaming release date, so if you missed it in theaters you're about to be able to watch a group of grown men hurt themselves for your entertainment from your couch.

which, let's be real, is the correct way to watch Jackass. these movies were never theater movies for me. they're 10pm-on-a-Tuesday movies, half asleep, laughing way too loud for a weeknight.

The crew is older now, and the tagline situation is basically "older but not wiser," which... yeah. that's the whole brand. Johnny Knoxville and the gang have been doing this for over two decades at this point, and every time a new one comes out I think okay THIS is the one where somebody finally says no, and every time I'm wrong. Somebody gets launched off something. Somebody gets bitten by something. Steve-O is somehow still standing, which is genuinely one of the most improbable career arcs in entertainment.

And I do mean career. People love to write Jackass off as dumb guy stuff, but those movies consistently make a pile of money, the fandom never really went away, and there's a sincerity underneath all the chaos that most comedy franchises would kill for. They're hurting themselves because they love it and they love each other and that's weirdly disarming. Also the stunts are just funny. It doesn't have to be deeper than a shopping cart hitting a ravine.

The big deal here is simple: if you skipped the theatrical run, this is your window. Check the date on the Men's Journal piece and set a reminder, because these streaming drops have a way of quietly showing up and then quietly leaving three months later while everyone asks "wait when did that come out."

I'll probably throw it on with my grandma. she raised me on gadgets and old action movies, and I feel like Jackass is exactly the kind of thing she'd pretend to disapprove of and then laugh the entire way through. that's the litmus test in this family.

Anyway. one last round of chaos, now streamable. watch something soft afterward, your poor nervous system will need it.
