ok so this one dragged a memory straight out of my childhood. A new rumor says the Jak and Daxter movie is still in development, which is wild because I genuinely forgot anyone was still working on it. Per PlayStation Lifestyle, the long-gestating adaptation of the beloved PlayStation platformer franchise hasn't quietly died the way most video game movies do. it's just... moving at the speed of a Sandover Village villager.

Quick refresher for anyone who wasn't a PS2 kid: Jak and Daxter was Naughty Dog before Naughty Dog became the Last of Us studio. Bright, weird fantasy world, silent orange-haired hero, his loudmouth ottsel best friend, and then the sequel went full grimdark with guns and a goatee and somehow it worked? Basically the training-wheels version of what they do now, which is take a genre and pour an unreasonable amount of craft into it.

A movie has been floating around in some form for over a decade at this point. There was even a stretch where it sounded like it could be animated, and straight up, that's the version I'd want. you cannot convince me live action works for a world where the comic relief is a talking weasel-otter thing. Do the math on that in CGI and someone's getting a Razzie.

Obviously the usual rumor rules apply. No studio confirmation, no casting, no director, no date. just the reassuring whisper that the project is still alive somewhere in the development pipeline, which can mean anything from "actively being written" to "one executive has it on a whiteboard." Take it with a full chunk of eco.

What's funny is the timing actually makes sense. Video game adaptations stopped being a punchline years ago. the Sonic movies print money, The Last of Us became a prestige event, even the Fallout show stuck the landing. If Naughty Dog's other babies are getting the serious treatment, Jak feels like the obvious next swing, and it's the one where you can just have fun with it. not everything needs to be a meditation on loss, sometimes a boy and his ottsel just gotta race zoomers.

I'm not holding my breath. I've been burned by game movie rumors before and I'll get burned again. but if this thing ever gets a real announcement with a studio and a date attached, I will be first in line with my grandma's old PS2 memory card as a talisman. precursor orbs, don't fail me now.
