Four small men. One photo. The entire internet losing it.

A reunion photo of Sean Astin, Elijah Wood, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd started circulating on social media and straight up it's making everyone feel ancient in the best way possible. People are fully freaking out.

And like, yeah, obviously they look different. Fellowship of the Ring came out in 2001, so we're talking nearly 25 years now. Sean Astin alone has been through, I want to say, eight career phases since Sam carried Frodo up that mountain. the photo just hits different when you realize how much time has gone by.

Per MSN's coverage, fans are calling them unrecognizable, which feels like a stretch. They look like themselves, just older. Like, what did people expect? They'd show up looking exactly like they did in 2001? That's not how time works.

What actually gets me about this photo is how genuinely happy they all look standing next to each other. You see cast reunions all the time where it feels forced, like a publicist set it up for engagement and everyone's doing polite smiles. This one doesn't feel like that. These four seem like they actually still enjoy each other's company, and based on this photo I'd buy it.

And turns out this isn't just a one-off hang. The reunion is tied to an announced 11-city North American tour called 'An Evening With the Hobbits: In Celebration of 25 Years.' So yeah, the hobbits are hitting the road, which is kind of perfect. These actors went through something pretty unique together and the fact that they still want to show up and celebrate it two and a half decades later says a lot.

My grandma always says the best thing about technology is how it lets people stay connected, and she's right, but also... sometimes the connection is just four dudes who walked through New Zealand together 25 years ago and still genuinely like each other. More than whatever algorithm is pushing the photo around, anyway.

Dante would probably tell me LOTR is too long and I should watch the extended editions anyway. He's wrong about the first part but absolutely right about the second.
