Nolan's epic is finally coming home. After that monster $1.5 billion box office run, The Odyssey has an official digital and 4K release date: November 17. Collider confirmed the date, so you're about four months out from watching a guy take twenty years getting back to Ithaca from your couch. Honestly that might be the more authentic experience.

And what a run it was. The movie finished its theatrical climb at $1.5 billion worldwide, one of the biggest of the year by any measure, and it did that as an original epic people kept showing up for. That's the part I keep coming back to. Nolan made a three-hour mythology epic, in IMAX, and crowds treated it like an event because it was one.

Digital lands first, with the 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray following. No full special features list yet, but knowing Nolan's home video track record, I'd expect the usual treatment: gorgeous picture, that obsessive sound mix turned up to reference levels, and probably an hour-plus behind-the-scenes piece where his crew explains how they built something absurd for real instead of in a computer. The man does not skimp on this stuff.

The timing is interesting too. November 17 puts it right in the middle of awards season, which makes me wonder if it pops back into theaters alongside the home video drop. Nothing announced there, just my own speculation, but a movie this size staying in the conversation through the fall wouldn't surprise me at all.

If you missed it in theaters, or you just want to live inside that sound mix at home, November 17 is your date. And if you're like me and saw it in IMAX twice, you're buying it anyway. I've already cleared the shelf space.
