Thief is back, and it's coming back with a soundtrack. Bit Bot Media has dropped the first track from Celldweller's official score for Thief: Pulse of Promise, the upcoming graphic novel set in the shadowy world everyone remembers sneaking through with the lights off and the volume just low enough not to wake the house. Collider has the first listen, and it's exactly the moody, electronic-tinged atmosphere you'd want attached to the master thief's name.

If you slept on this one, Pulse of Promise is a graphic novel continuation of the Thief universe, and Celldweller on score duty makes a lot of sense. Klayton's sound has always lived in that gritty industrial-electronic space, which is basically what the original Thief games sounded like before anyone had a genre name for it. Cranking through the Bonehoard with those ambient drones humming in the background? Formative stuff for a lot of us.

The first track sets the tone for what the graphic novel is going for, dark, tense, a little cinematic. And putting out music before the book itself is a clever bit of worldbuilding. You're not just reading Thief, you're hearing it. Comics with original scores are still rare enough that it feels like an event, and for a property this beloved, the extra care shows.

Thief fans have been burned before, though. The 2014 reboot had its moments but split the room, and the less said about the long silence since, the better. So a graphic novel with a real composer attached reads like someone at Bit Bot Media actually gets why people care. Garrett's world was always about texture and mood as much as stealth mechanics, and a soundtrack-first reveal leans right into that.

No word yet on full release timing for the score or whether we'll get more tracks drip-fed before the graphic novel lands, but the first piece is out in the world now, so keep an ear on Bit Bot Media's channels.

Somewhere out there, a Discord server full of longtime taffers is already arguing about whether this honors the originals. That argument is half the fun of a series coming back. What's your Thief entry point, The Dark Project or Deadly Shadows? Choose carefully, I know which answers start fights.
