Cowabunga, again. Trailmark Games just dropped the Ninja Edition of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants on Nintendo Switch 2, and if you have any quarters-and-a-crowded-cabinet memories in your bones, this one's aimed at you. Superhero Hype has the full launch rundown, and the short version is: it's out today, and it brought friends.

By friends I mean co-op, obviously. The Ninja Edition supports four-player couch play, which is the entire point of a Turtles arcade game. These beat 'em ups were never really about the combat depth, they were about the person sitting next to you hoarding the pizza pickup while you're one hit from needing another credit. The new edition adds extra stages and bosses over the original arcade release, so even if you played Wrath of the Mutants in its earlier form, there's fresh material to mash through.

The Switch 2 version also gets some visual and performance polish, which matters more than you'd think for a genre that lives or dies on feeling snappy. Nothing kills an arcade brawler faster than mushy inputs, and from everything shown so far this port keeps things quick.

And can we just appreciate that this genre refuses to die? Between the Shredder's Revenge renaissance, the ongoing TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection love, and now this, beat 'em ups have gone from "remember when" nostalgia fodder to a genuinely living corner of gaming. I wrote last week about Warrior Cats getting a release date from this same Trailmark crew, and it's clear they've found a lane: pick beloved properties, ship them finished, keep the couch co-op intact. Most publishers still fumble at least one of those steps.

Where this fits in your library depends on your group. If you've got a regular crew for game night, four-player Turtles is an easy call, especially on a console that's basically built for handing someone a Joy-Con. Solo players will burn through it faster, but the solo Turtles arcade experience has always been like eating pizza alone. Possible, but missing the point.

One warning from someone who's been raid-leading since the EverQuest days: establish pizza rules before you start, not after. Whoever grabs the full heal when the whole party is at half health gets votekicked. My Discord has rules about this. There have been incidents.

The Ninja Edition is available now on the Switch 2 eShop. Grab three friends, pick your Turtle before someone calls Donnie and you're stuck with the bo reach complaints, and get in there. And if you do pick it up, tell me which Turtle your group fights over, because in every crew I've ever run with, it's always the same two people wanting the same one, every single time.
