Bad news if you were hoping for the next mainline Tomb Raider anytime soon. Per Collider's report, Amazon Games boss Jeffrey Gattis says Tomb Raider Catalyst is targeting 2028 at the earliest. That's the official release window, and it lands right before Sophie Turner's Lara Croft series hits Prime Video.

Do the math and it's rough. The show premieres, runs its seasons, probably builds a whole new fanbase, and the game still isn't ready. If 2028 holds, that's a full decade since Shadow of the Tomb Raider shipped in 2018. I remember when PS1-era Lara was basically an annual fixture, new adventure every holiday season like clockwork. Different era. Different budgets.

Catalyst is running on Unreal Engine 5, and the reporting points toward a more unified Lara, one continuity across games, film, and now streaming. Amazon has both the series and publishing involvement with the game, so at least the same hands are on the wheel. Whether one company steering both actually produces a coherent Lara across mediums, we'll see. Plenty of adaptations have promised that kind of alignment and delivered something looser.

What I'll actually watch for is whether the Prime Video show moves the needle on the game's direction. Amazon sitting on both sides of this is unusual, and if Turner's Lara lands with audiences, don't be surprised if Catalyst quietly bends toward that portrayal.

In the meantime, the Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered collection from earlier this year is still the best way to scratch the itch. The Last Revelation remains underrated, and the remaster treatment did the late-PS1 entries right, modern controls included, with a toggle to shut them off the second they annoy you. They will.

2028 it is, then. Lara's waited in tombs longer than this. Have you replayed the originals lately, or are you coming in fresh with the Survivor trilogy?
