Tuesday is when the physical media shelf restocks itself, and this week's haul is a weirdly good snapshot of 2026 at the movies. Per Media Play News, the Sept. 22 slate includes Toy Story 5, the Scary Movie relaunch, and Evil Dead Burn, all hitting disc in the same drop.

Toy Story 5 on 4K is the headline grabber for me. Pixar's toys-have-feelings empire just keeps rolling, and whatever you thought of the theatrical run, these movies have always been reference-grade home video. If you've got a 4K setup, this is the disc this week that actually shows it off. My copy is already ordered and I'm not ashamed.

Evil Dead Burn is the one horror fans have been waiting on. The franchise has swung between grim reboot and slapstick gore for forty-something years now, and this entry leaned hard into the theatrical-crowd experience, which is exactly why I caught it opening weekend. But a second watch at home with the lights off is a different animal, and I mean that as a compliment. Deadites at home hit different.

The Scary Movie relaunch rounds out the big three. The Wayans-era parodies are baked into my movie DNA, so I'm constitutionally incapable of skipping one of these even when the hit rate is, let's say, generous. If the jokes land half as often as the marketing promised, it'll make a fine Friday-night group watch.

The full slate runs deeper than those three, with The Secret and the rest of the week's list over at Media Play News, so check their rundown for the complete picture if you're the type who plans a shelf run like a heist.

I know streaming is where most people watch things now. But weeks like this are why I keep buying discs. Three movies, three totally different moods, all permanent, none of them disappearing from a service because of a licensing spreadsheet. Jess keeps telling me my shelf is a fire hazard. I keep telling her it's a library.
