Okay so this is the news I needed today. The 1986 animated Transformers: The Movie is coming back to theaters on September 17, getting a full 4K restoration from Fathom Entertainment and Hasbro. There's already a trailer out and everything.

If you know, you know. This movie is sacred ground for a very specific generation of people who grew up watching Autobots and Decepticons blow each other apart on Saturday mornings. And then the movie came out and just... went there. Characters died. Like, permanently. Optimus Prime. In a kids movie. they really just did that.

The soundtrack alone is legendary. "The Touch" by Stan Bush. "Dare to Be Stupid" by Weird Al. The synth-metal score from Vince DiCola that hits like a freight train. Orson Welles voiced Unicron in one of his final film roles, and it's genuinely wild that a literal planet-eating robot god was performed by one of the greatest actors of all time. Like grandma would say, some things just don't compute, and that casting is one of them.

I've been very vocal about how physical media and theatrical re-releases matter and I'll keep saying it. seeing these movies the way they were meant to be seen, on a big screen with actual sound systems, hits completely different than scrolling on your phone. Sitting in a dark theater while "The Touch" plays at full volume is just not the same experience at home. According to the MSN report, Fathom is handling distribution, and they've been pretty solid about these nostalgic re-releases.

September 17 through September 21, so you've got a five-day window. Don't sleep on the tickets when they go live. I already told Dante he's coming with me and he said "I've never seen it" which is... an emergency situation that needs to be corrected immediately.

This is the kind of thing where you either already have the date circled or you're confused about why a 40-year-old cartoon movie matters. If it's the second one... trust me. Just go. You'll get it.
