Vivo has had a busy stretch, and this week the company rolled out three new products for the Indian market: the Vivo V80, the Vivo S2 FE, and the company's very first MR headset. The Tech Outlook has the details if you want the full rundown.

Phones first, because those are the ones most people will actually buy. The mid-range is where the real fighting happens these days and Vivo knows it. Neither the V80 nor the S2 FE looks revolutionary on paper, but solid, sensible phones at friendly prices are exactly what a mid-ranger is supposed to be. Technology should work for you, not the other way around, and a good mid-range phone does that without asking for flagship money. I've steered plenty of family members toward phones in this bracket over the years and the happiest ones were never the people holding the fanciest device.

My granddaughter Jess keeps telling me I need to keep up with every new release so she doesn't have to explain them to me. She may be right. Though I do remember when a new phone launch meant one phone, not a whole slate all at once. We've come a long way from those days, let me tell you.

Then there's the headset, which is the genuinely new territory for Vivo. Details are still thin on pricing and availability for India, and I'd hold off on getting excited until we know what content actually ships with it. A headset is only as good as what you can do with it, that's the whole thing. I've watched enough first-generation gadgets come and go to know the second version is usually the one worth your money.

What I find interesting is the timing. Two mid-range phones and a first-gen mixed reality device, all in one go, reads like a company planting flags in several categories at once. Whether that pays off depends entirely on execution, and execution is something you can only judge with the devices in your hands.

I'll be watching for Indian pricing and hands-on time with both phones, because a launch announcement only tells you so much. And if the MR headset gets a firm launch date, you'll read about it here. Probably after Jess has already tried it and shown me how it works, the way it always goes in this family.
