WWE 2K26 has a big drop coming on September 9, and if the game's been collecting dust since summer, this is the week to fire it back up. As Game Rant reports, 2K is rolling out Ringside Pass Season 5, the latest wave of content for a game that's quietly had one of the busier post-launch calendars of the year.

The Ringside Pass is WWE 2K's answer to the battle pass structure that has swallowed basically every live service game on the planet. You play, you earn tiers, you unlock wrestlers, arenas, gear and championship belts along the way. Season 5 keeps that machine running with a fresh theme and the usual pile of unlocks, and September 9 is when it all goes live.

I have a complicated relationship with season passes. Back in my day, wrestling games shipped complete: you bought Here Comes the Pain, you got Here Comes the Pain, all of it, no drip feed. Part of me still grumbles about that. But I'll give WWE 2K credit where it's due, because the modern entries have used the pass format to keep the roster weird and current in a way the old annual cartridge swaps never could. New signings show up, legends get added, and the game you bought in March isn't the same game in September. That part, I like.

The September 9 timing is also smart when you look at the calendar. September 2026 is stacked to the point of absurdity, and I've been saying all month that publishers are tripping over each other to get out of each other's way. A content drop for an already-released game is one of the few moves that doesn't require fighting for shelf space. You're not asking anyone to choose between this and a new $70 box. You're just giving lapsed players a reason to reinstall on a Tuesday.

It also lines up with WWE's real-world calendar heading into the fall stretch, which is usually when the Pass content gets most interesting. The crossover between what's happening on TV and what shows up in the game has been 2K's strongest card the past few seasons, and I don't expect Season 5 breaks that pattern.

If you're sitting on Premium Pass tiers from earlier seasons, it's worth checking the fine print on whether anything carries over before the switch flips. Skim the official Pass rules rather than assume, because losing a reward you earned to a season changeover is a uniquely annoying way to find out.

I'll probably dip back in for a weekend. My create-a-wrestler from launch, a deeply irresponsible luchador named El Contable, has been idle long enough. Season 5 content goes live on the 9th, and I'd expect the usual breakdown of free track versus premium track unlocks to come with it.
