Xbox rolled out the second wave of August Game Pass additions this week, and PCMag UK has the full rundown if you want the complete list. The short version: ten games landing across late August and early September, including a Day One release, which is always the part that makes people do the math on a resub.

I've been doing this math since the service started, and I want to say the calculus was simpler back then. Early Game Pass felt like theft, full stop. Forza Horizon 4 showing up on Day One, the Bethesda back catalog coming in after that acquisition closed, the whole thing felt like it paid for itself before you finished installing games. Now it's a monthly judgment call, and the answer depends entirely on how many of these ten you were going to buy anyway.

The Day One release is the hook, as it always is. It's still where Game Pass feels most separated from the pack, even if Sony's PS Plus has gotten more aggressive about first-party availability in the same window. If that Day One title was on your buy list, congratulations, the subscription decision probably made itself. If it wasn't, keep reading.

The rest of the wave is the usual mix: a couple of indies worth a weekend, some back catalog filler, and at least one game you already own on three platforms because that's how these lists always go. I'd scroll the full lineup before you pull out the credit card. If you see three or more games you'd otherwise pay for, resub. If it's one, just buy the one. The spreadsheet really is that small.

The other thing I keep telling people: don't subscribe continuously. Stack a month when a wave like this lands, burn through what you want, cancel, repeat. Xbox makes cancelling annoying by design but not impossible, and unless you're live-service brained, there's rarely a reason to carry the sub through a dry stretch. Nina would disagree, she lives in FFXIV so a subscription is just air to her, but for the rest of us this is a tool, not a lifestyle.

Ten games is a solid wave. Whether it's a resub wave is between you and your backlog.
