Zach Cregger's Resident Evil reboot is headed to Netflix, plus Blu-ray and DVD, and that's about all anyone's willing to say right now. Polygon reports that the post-theatrical path includes physical releases and an eventual Netflix streaming debut, but the exact date is still unknown.

So if you missed it in theaters and you've been waiting on a couch-friendly option, the answer is "eventually." Digital and physical formats come first in the typical release chain, with the Netflix window after that, and Sony hasn't announced a single one of those dates yet. We know where it's going, just not when.

That leaves the wait, and I mean, waiting on a horror movie you're excited about is its own small ritual. My group chat has been trading theories since the movie was announced, and now the streaming wait gives us a second wave of it. If you're in the same boat, you know the drill: no spoilers, no leaks, just a growing pile of "when can we rewatch this" messages.

The Blu-ray is the one I'm watching personally. I have zero inside information here, just hope, because horror releases on physical media sometimes carry extras like deleted scenes, and I'd love it if that turned out to be true for this one. Pure speculation on my part, but a girl can dream about gnarlier footage.

Once the Netflix date is actually announced, a rewatch becomes frictionless, and for a movie built on dread, that first home viewing is its own experience. Lights off, headphones on, nobody around. Very different from a theater crowd, and both versions have their place.

We'll update this once Sony puts actual dates on the board. Until then, the theater is still the only way to see it, and for a horror movie, that communal experience, the whole crowd tensing at once, somebody two rows back whispering "no no no," is hard to beat.
