OK so you know how some people get really into sharks? Like they watch shark week and own a shark mug and sleep with a stuffed shark? cute. adorable even. but a woman from maine just made every single one of us look like absolute amateurs because she has 106 shark tattoos on her body and she officially holds the guinness world record for it.

106!!!

I just... i need a second with this because that is not a casual interest. that is not even a hobby. that is a full lifestyle commitment to getting permanent pictures of predatory fish inked into your skin over and over and over until a world records organization says "ok yes you did the most, congratulations."

according to Yahoo Entertainment, the woman, who is from maine, started getting shark tattoos because she just genuinely loves the animals. and she kept going. great whites, hammerheads, whale sharks, every kind of shark you can think of (and probably several you can't), all permanently drawn on her body by various tattoo artists who I can only assume developed very strong opinions about dorsal fin shading along the way.

like imagine being the tattoo artist who gets the call. "hey so what design are you thinking?" and the answer is "shark" for the 73rd time. at what point do you just start keeping a shark reference folder on your desk? at what point do you become the go-to shark tattoo person in your whole region? I have so many questions.

the best part is it's not a joke. it's not a bit. she just really, deeply, genuinely loves sharks. she thinks they're incredible and beautiful and important to the ecosystem and she wanted to show that by covering herself in them forever. that is pure uncut enthusiasm and I respect it with my whole entire heart.

guinness world records has officially recognized her achievement, which means somewhere in their archives, right next to the person with the longest fingernails and the guy who balanced the most spoons on his face, there is now a woman whose entire body is a love letter to sharks. I cannot think of a more specific way to exist on this planet.

106 tattoos. of sharks. because she just really really likes them. the world is absurd and wonderful and I am so glad people like this exist in it.
