OK so you know how most music videos are just... people standing in warehouses looking moody? EXTINCT said absolutely not and decided to make an entire sci-fi thriller instead and I am fully here for it.

The band's latest video takes the concept of a UFO abduction and just RUNS with it. We're talking strange lights cutting across the sky and eerie unexplained events unfolding in real time and a whole cinematic atmosphere that feels less like a music video and more like someone found footage from an actual close encounter and thought, yeah, let's put our song over this.

Like I don't know what I expected when I hit play but it wasn't this level of production ambition. The lighting alone? Incredible. Every frame has this unsettling otherworldly glow that makes you feel like something is watching you from just outside your peripheral vision. And the pacing builds in this way where you're not sure if you're watching a music video or the opening scene of a movie that's about to ruin your sleep schedule.

The abduction sequences are where it really clicks though. There's this moment where the lights descend and everything goes sideways and it's genuinely, like, spooky? Not horror-movie spooky. More like... standing alone in a field at 2 a.m. and suddenly realizing the silence around you is too quiet spooky. The kind of spooky that makes you check your windows.

And I think that's what makes it work so well. EXTINCT understood that the best alien encounter stories aren't about the alien itself. They're about that feeling of smallness, of realizing the universe is enormous and strange and maybe paying attention to you specifically. That's a mood and the song carries it perfectly.

You can watch the full video over at MSN and I genuinely think you should because describing it in words is like describing a sunset to someone. You just have to see the lights.

This is exactly the kind of creative swing that makes me love music videos as a format. When someone decides to go fully unhinged with a concept and commit to it with zero irony the results are always magic. EXTINCT went ahead and made alien abduction art and we're all better off for it.

Now if you'll excuse me I need to go watch it three more times and then stare at the sky for a while.
