OK so you know how sometimes a TV show drops a tiny background detail and your entire brain just lights up?? that just happened and I need to talk about it immediately.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds apparently included a crashed alien ship in a recent episode and fans are connecting it to one of the most bonkers unanswered mysteries in the entire Star Trek universe, the Voth. If you don't remember the Voth (and really, why would you, they showed up exactly once in Voyager back in the 90s), they are an intelligent, spacefaring species of... dinosaurs. Like, actual descendants of Earth dinosaurs who evolved to sentience and developed advanced technology and left the planet millions of years before the asteroid hit.

YES. Space dinosaurs. This has been canon since 1996 and we have all just been politely living with that information.

The problem is that Star Trek never really explained HOW they left. Like, you're telling me Hadrosaurs built spaceships and booked it off Earth 65 million years ago and nobody thought to circle back to that?? The Voyager episode "Distant Origin" introduced the concept and then the franchise just... moved on. No follow-up episode, no movie mention, nothing. According to MSN, this crashed ship might be the missing puzzle piece.

What I love about this and what I keep thinking about is that Strange New Worlds seems to be doing this thing where it plants seeds for deep-cut lore from older Trek shows and then lets them grow quietly in the background. It's the prequel series that actually respects the universe it came from.

The implications are genuinely wild though. If the Voth originated on Earth and left before the extinction event, that means dinosaurs didn't just die out. Some of them THRIVED. They went to space. They built a civilization. And somewhere out there in the galaxy, there could be an entire culture of highly evolved reptilians who have no idea they're originally from Earth, or worse, they know and they just never mentioned it.

I want every Star Trek mystery answered with a full breakdown from every showrunner. But this one?? This one I need answered with a full episode. Maybe two. Give me the Voth origin story. Give me the dinosaur exodus. Give me the moment a Hadrosaur looked up at the stars and went "yeah, I'm going out there."

The world is absurd in the best possible way and sometimes that absurdity includes space dinosaurs and I think that's beautiful.
