OK so let's talk about 2011 for a second, because I feel like we all kind of sleep on what an absolutely stacked year that was for television. Like, you know how people argue about the Golden Age of TV and everyone says the late 2000s? 2011 is sitting right there in the middle of it all, quietly (well, loudly) delivering banger after banger, and Comic Basics just put together a whole rundown of the year's best shows that had me nodding along like a dashboard toy.

It was one of those years where new shows showed up fully formed and old shows hit their stride at the exact same time. You had splashy debuts grabbing everyone's attention while veteran series were in the middle of their best seasons, and it made the whole TV landscape feel like a buffet where literally everything is your favorite.

Go look at the full list over at Comic Basics and tell me your watchlist doesn't immediately triple in size. Mine did. It's a problem. I've made peace with it.

And what gets me is the range. 2011 had way more going on than prestige dramas doing prestige drama things. You had genre shows, comedies finding their voices, and returning favorites that decided, apparently by committee, that this was the year to level up. It's the year a bunch of shows stopped being "oh I catch that sometimes" and became "do NOT call me during this hour."

A peak TV year like this one never announces itself. You only really notice it in hindsight, when you're making a list like this one and realizing that a single calendar year gave you that many shows people still talk about fifteen years later. Fifteen years! Some of these shows have fans who weren't even alive when they premiered, which makes me feel like a museum piece, but like, a happy museum piece.

Anyway. If you missed any of these the first time around, consider this your sign. Autumn is objectively the best viewing season (it's cozy, it's dark early, snacks taste better, I will not be taking questions), and a 2011 deep-dive is exactly the kind of comfort rewatch the moment calls for.

Just don't blame me when you look up and it's 2 a.m. and you're four episodes deep into a show that's older than some of your coworkers. Joy is worth it, so watch the shows.
