OK real quick because draft season is basically here and I keep seeing people stress over whether Player X is ranked 14th or 17th on some big board and I need you to take a breath.

Tiers. That's the move. If you're not using them yet, this breakdown is a solid place to start.

The whole idea is simple. Instead of obsessing over exact rankings, you group players who are basically the same value into clusters. So instead of agonizing over whether you should draft the WR10 or the WR14, you look at your sheet and realize they're in the same tier. Same ballpark. Same expected production. Pick the one you actually like watching play football.

And fine I'll say the analytical part too because it matters. When you draft by tiers you can see the drop-offs coming. You know when a position gets thin. You know when you can afford to wait on a receiver because there are still eight guys in the same tier on the board. It's not just vibes. It's smart roster construction.

But I think people overcomplicate it. They build these elaborate spreadsheets with 12 tiers per position and color-coded cells and conditional formatting and then they spend the first three rounds of the draft staring at their laptop instead of just picking a football player.

Don't do that.

Keep it loose. Four or five tiers per position is plenty. Know where the cliffs are. When you see a tier about to disappear, grab your guy. When there's still depth, pivot to another position and come back.

That's it. The tier tells you when to act. Your brain tells you who. Your gut tells you why.

I will never stop saying this part. Draft players who make you feel something. The rookie you watched torch defenses in November. The running back coming off an injury who's been posting workout videos at 5 AM looking absolutely feral. The tight end everyone forgot about because his quarterback got hurt last year but he's got a new situation now and you can just FEEL it.

Tiers keep you from panicking. Trust keeps you from overthinking. Both together and you walk into the season actually excited about your team instead of second-guessing every pick until September.

Now go draft somebody fun.
