My office has no walls and no ceiling and that's exactly how I like it. I grew up in Colorado with parents who had me on a trail before I could walk, and I've never really come back inside. I've hiked in every national park system region in the country, camped in conditions ranging from absolutely perfect to "why did I think this was a good idea." Like this one time in the Cascades where I forgot my rain fly and it started pouring at 2 AM and I just laid there accepting my life choices for about an hour before I rigged a tarp situation that barely worked. So yeah, I have very strong opinions about gear, all earned through stuff like that.

I write for every experience level. If you've never slept in a tent I'll help you figure out where to start without making it feel overwhelming, and if you're a seasoned backpacker looking for your next challenge I've got trail recommendations. The outdoors belong to everybody. That's not a tagline, I really mean it.

But I'm pretty unglamorous about all of it. I already mentioned the rain fly thing didn't I. There was also the time I forgot rain gear entirely and spent eight hours soaking wet on a ridge trail. The thing is I test everything myself and I don't owe any brand a kind word. My gear reviews are honest enough that some companies would probaly prefer I didn't write them. That's how I know they're good.

Nick Crews handles the auto, hunting, and fishing side of our section, and he brings the rural working-outdoors perspective while I bring the trail and adventure side. Road trips, overlanding, vehicle camping, that's where our two lanes cross.
